OVERVIEW

This project focused on creating a fully realized product concept and digital experience for a smart essential oil diffuser designed to simplify and enhance everyday use.

The product introduces a pod-based system that eliminates the need for manually adding essential oils. Instead, pre-filled scent pods release controlled amounts of fragrance over time, making the experience more convenient and consistent.

Alongside product development, I designed a complete brand identity and a responsive e-commerce website to support the product launch and communicate its value to users.

OBJECTIVES

The objective of this project was to design a product and accompanying digital experience that simplifies the use of essential oil diffusers while creating a calming and intuitive user journey. By introducing a pod-based system, the goal was to eliminate the need for manual oil measurement and make scent control more convenient and consistent. The website was designed to clearly communicate the product’s features, highlight its mood-based scent system, and guide users seamlessly from discovery to purchase. A key focus was maintaining a cohesive visual identity while ensuring usability and clarity across multiple screen sizes.

DELIVERABLES

This project resulted in a fully developed product concept and cohesive digital experience. I created a complete brand identity, including a custom logo, color palette, and typography system, along with a fully designed multi-page website. The website included a home page, about page, how it works page, gallery and reviews page, Q&A page, meet the brand page, and a shop page with product details and purchasing functionality. All pages were designed in Figma and supported by additional branding work in Canva. The final deliverables also included responsive designs for desktop, tablet, and mobile to ensure a consistent and accessible user experience across all devices.

OUTCOME

The final result was a cohesive product ecosystem that combined thoughtful feature design with a calming, user-centered digital experience. The project successfully demonstrates my ability to move from concept to execution, integrating product thinking, branding, and UX/UI design into one unified solution.

Research & Concept Development

USER PROBLEM

Through initial research, I identified a common pain point: traditional essential oil diffusers require frequent manual effort, including measuring oil drops and maintaining consistent scent levels.

This insight led to the core idea of a pod-based diffuser system, designed for ease, consistency, and convenience.

SCENT & MOOD RESEARCH

A key part of this project involved grounding my design decisions in research around aromatherapy and color psychology to create a more intentional and immersive user experience. I explored how specific scents are known to influence mood and cognitive function, and how color can reinforce those emotional responses visually, helping users intuitively understand each setting.

CALM & UNWIND
Draws on lavender and chamomile's well-known association with relaxation and
sleep, softened with vanilla and paired with purple for its universal link to tranquility.

CLEAN & FRESH
Combines eucalyptus, mint, and cotton (scents that signal clarity and renewal) alongside green, which echoes nature and balance.

FOCUS & CLARITY
Leans on rosemary and peppermint, both linked to alertness and concentration,
paired with yellow to reinforce that sense of energy and mental sharpness.

SEASONAL GLOW
Taps into the deep connection between scent and memory, rotating fragrances with the seasons — anchored by orange, a color that carries warmth, comfort, and change.

By combining scent research with color psychology, I aimed to create a multi-sensory system where users could not only smell the intended mood but also visually recognize and connect with it through color. This approach helped strengthen the overall concept and made the product feel more intuitive and engaging.

PRODUCT FEATURE REFINEMENT

After defining the concept, I refined the product with additional functional features. These features were designed to balance convenience, usability, and flexibility.

Responsive Design

DESKTOP, TABLET, MOBILE

After completing the desktop version, I adapted the website for tablet and mobile devices

This required:

  • Reorganizing layouts for smaller screens

  • Maintaining visual consistency across breakpoints

  • Ensuring readability and usability without losing key information

The goal was to preserve the full experience while optimizing for different screen sizes.

Reflection

This project pushed me to think beyond visual design and approach the work more holistically, considering both the product experience and the digital interaction. Through this process, I learned how to translate research into intentional design decisions and create a cohesive system that connects product functionality, branding, and user experience. Designing the website alongside the product concept strengthened my ability to balance aesthetics with usability, especially when adapting layouts across desktop, tablet, and mobile formats. Overall, this project helped me grow as a more thoughtful and strategic designer, reinforcing the importance of designing with purpose and ensuring that every element works together to create a seamless and engaging user experience.
